John Hamilton was a member of the first Governing Body of Henderson County consisting of fifteen men when it was formed in 1838. He was a member of the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions. There are land transfer records in the original Buncombe Co. deed books under the name John Hamilton from 1821 thru 1835
